Gerald D. Stockinger known to all as Jerry, the owner of Clio Gun Shop built his first rifle on May 8th 1956. The barrel and receiver was fabricated from thin-wall electrical conduit known as EMT. A wooden stock was fabricated from a board. The projectile was the head of a wooden clothespin. Since gunpowder was not available to 13 year old children a carton of paper bookmatches was obtained and the heads of all the matches in all the books (about 1000) were removed using a big tin shears. These were carefully packed into the barrel and the projectile seated on top. This contraption was arranged to be fired with a match via a flash hole at the top much like the old cannons. When this device was finally fired it exploded. Despite all of this misadventure my interest in firearms never faltered having been raised on Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and Hopalong Cassidy. Just a few years later I entered a five year apprenticeship with a master gunsmith to learn the trade. I figured I had better learn to do it right. I have been gunsmithing since 1963 and have operated my own shop since 1984. Clio Gun shop is a full service shop offering just about anything a hunter or shooter might need. This is a full time business with us and we can turn out jobs much faster than what is usually found in this field.
