Bluing

We offer several grades of bluing. The difference is in the polishing.

HUNTER FINISH: Pits and old finish are removed. Gun is finished with 240 grit polish on loose wheel. Gun is then hot blued with Oxynate 7. The result is as good or better than most over-the-counter guns sold today.

DELUXE FINISH: The gun is prepared as above and finished with 400 grit polish on hard felt and loose wheels with all screw holes and corners protected and square

MASTER FINISH: Same as Deluxe finish with all polishing marks removed. No ripples and finished with 500 grit to a mirror finish.

NIEDNER COLD BLUE also known as SLOW RUST BLUING: Despite its name, this is not a cold blue. An acid solution is brushed on the metal and left to stand (rust) about three hours. The metal is then boiled to loosen the rust and then carded using a fine wire wheel which is totally oil free. This is repeated between 10 and twelve times until the desired color is obtained. The finished job from this method cannot be obtained from any other type of blue. It has the rich deep blue, not black, similar to the pre WW-II Colt and Savage firearms.

We will be happy to talk over your bluing needs and have samples of the different finishes in our shop to help you make a decision.
